Illinois Salines

Illinois Salines are areas of salty water in the ground in Illinois. Salines form when water flowed through the ground that had a lot of salts dissolved in it. Over time, the water evaporates and what's left is the salty water, which can be in a pond, a lake, or even deep underground. People use Illinois Salines because the salty water can be used to get salt out of the ground. This salt can then be used as a seasoning for food, or even to make medicine.
