Illustrative model of greenhouse effect on climate change

Ok kiddo, imagine you have a toy car that can get hot when left in the sun for too long. This is because the sun's rays are heating up the car.

Now, the Earth is a bit like that toy car, and it's getting hotter too. This is because certain gases in the Earth's atmosphere, called greenhouse gases, are trapping heat from the sun's rays in the air around us.

This warming of the Earth is called the greenhouse effect, and it's not a good thing because as the Earth gets hotter, it can cause big changes to the climate - the weather patterns that we experience around the world.

Some of the consequences of climate change, caused by the greenhouse effect, include things like rising sea levels, more extreme weather events (like hurricanes and heatwaves), and less predictable seasons for farmers to grow their crops.

So, just like how leaving your toy car out in the sun for too long can cause it to get hot, the greenhouse effect is causing the Earth to get hotter and have big impacts on our world.
