Impact extrusion

Okay kiddo, so imagine you have a big playdough ball and you want to make a toy car out of it. To do that, you need to squeeze the playdough really hard through a special mold that's shaped like a car.

That's kind of like what impact extrusion is, but instead of playdough, we use metal! We take a cylindrical piece of metal and we put it into a machine called an impact extrusion press.

Inside the press, there's a movable punch that pushes down on the metal with really high force. This force is like when you jump on a trampoline really hard - it makes the metal deform and flow into the shape of the mold that's attached to the bottom of the press.

Once the metal has filled the mold, the punch comes back up and the newly-formed object is ejected. And voila! We have a metal part that's shaped exactly like the mold.

This process is really good for making parts that need to be strong and lightweight, like tubes, cans, and cylinders. And it's also really efficient, since we can make a lot of parts quickly and with less waste compared to other methods.
