Impeachment in the Thirteen Colonies

Impeachment in the thirteen colonies was a way for people to hold government officials accountable for their actions. It was like a court trial, but it happened in the legislature (a group of elected leaders). You could impeach someone if there was strong evidence that they had done something wrong or broken the law. It was similar to what happens today in the US, only the thirteen colonies all had their own laws. In the thirteen colonies, the legislature would decide if there was enough evidence against someone to impeach them. If they decided there was, the person being impeached would have to go to trial and the court would decide if they were guilty or not. If they were found guilty, they could be removed from office and sent to prison.
