Imperfect self-defense is when someone uses force to try and protect themselves in a situation where they feel threatened, but the force that they use is not enough to actually stop the danger. For example, if someone felt threatened by another person who was coming towards them, they might throw something at the person in an attempt to make them back away. But if the thing they throw missed or wasn't heavy enough, then the person might still be a danger to them. In that case, the self-defense would be considered imperfect because it didn't actually stop the other person from being a danger.
