ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Imperial and Royal

Well kiddo, the words "imperial" and "royal" are used to describe things that have to do with kings, queens, and emperors. Let's start with "royal". You know how some families have a mom and dad who are in charge and their kids have to do what they say? Well, "royal" is a word that describes families who are in charge of countries. So, a king or queen is the leader of their country and their family is the "royal" family.

Now for "imperial". Sometimes a king or queen becomes so powerful that they start to rule over other countries. When that happens, they become an "emperor" or "empress". Their family becomes the "imperial" family and their country is called an "empire".

So, "royal" describes something related to a king or queen and their family in charge of a country while "imperial" describes something related to an emperor or empress and their family in charge of an empire.
