Okay kiddo, do you know what a lawyer does? Yes, a lawyer helps people with legal problems. Now, imagine if a company had their very own lawyer to help them with legal problems that come up. That's what in house counsel is: a lawyer or a team of lawyers who work for a company.

The in house counsel's job is to make sure that their company follows all the laws and rules that they need to follow. For example, if the company wants to create a new product, the in house counsel might research the laws to make sure that the product can be made and sold legally.

The in house counsel also helps the company when there are legal problems. For example, if someone sues the company, the in house counsel will work to make sure that the company is protected and maybe even try to settle the lawsuit without having to go to court.

In house counsel help the company in a lot of ways, but most importantly, they make sure that the company is following all of the legal rules and staying out of trouble.
