ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

In personam

Okay kiddo, so imagine you have two apples in your hand. One of them belongs to your friend and the other one belongs to you. The apple that belongs to your friend is called "in personam" because it has a special connection to your friend.

Now, let's say you and your friend get into an argument about who owns the apple that belongs to your friend. Your friend might say, "That's my apple, you can't have it!" That's because the apple belongs to your friend "in personam", or in a way that only applies to your friend.

So basically, "in personam" means that something belongs to a certain person and no one else can claim it. It's like having a special sticker on your apple that says it's yours and someone else can't take it away from you.
