Incarceration in the United States

Incarceration in the United States is when people who break laws (like stealing, hurting someone, etc.) are sent to prison or jail as a type of punishment. This means they cannot leave the prison or jail until they are allowed to. They are separated from people who are not in prison, and they do not get to do the same things they could do before they were put in prison (like go to movies or hang out with friends).
