Independent bookstore

Okay kiddo, have you ever been to a big store where they sell a lot of books like Barnes and Noble? That's called a chain store, which means there are a bunch of locations all over the place that are owned by the same company.

But have you ever been to a little store where they sell books, but there's only one of them and no other stores look exactly the same? That's called an independent bookstore. Independent means that the store is owned and run by just one person or a small group of people instead of a big company.

Independent bookstores have their own personality and style because the owners get to pick what kind of books they want to sell and decorate the store however they want. They might even have special events like book clubs, author visits or story times.

Sometimes people like to shop at independent bookstores because they can find unique books that they might not be able to find in a chain store. Plus, when people buy books from independent bookstores, it helps support a small business and the local economy.
