Indigenous Australians are the original people of Australia. They have been living in Australia for thousands of years and have their own way of living. They recognize 6 different seasons instead of the typical 4 seasons that most people know. These 6 seasons are:
1. Mangu-rick: This is the start of the hottest part of the year and is also known as the “season to scatter”. This season usually occurs between December and February.
2. Yagya-ranga: This season is known as the “season of rain” and usually happens between March and May.
3. Banggerreng: This is the coldest part of the year and is also known as the “season of mists”. This season usually occurs between June and August.
4. Wurrgeng: This season is when the weather starts to warm up and is known as the “season of the short cold”. This season usually happens between September and November.
5. Gurrung: This is the time when there is a lot of wind and dust storms and is known as the “season of wind”. This season usually occurs between November and December.
6. Guran-guran: This is the “season of repose” when people take time to rest and reconnect with the land and each other. This season usually happens between December and February.
