Indigo Era

The Indigo era is a term used to describe the period in music history when indigo artists, or people of African descent, created popular music. This time period saw the rise of many different African-American musical styles, including blues, gospel, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, soul, funk, and hip-hop. These genres are now considered some of the most important types of music in the world and have greatly influenced other styles. The Indigo era began in the early 1900s, when blues and jazz first became popular. It continued through the 1930s and 1940s when gospel, rock ‘n’ roll, and soul music gained popularity. Finally, it ended in the 1980s with the rise of hip-hop. During this time, many African-American musicians, singers, and songwriters broke through barriers to bring their music to the mainstream.
