ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Indirect election

Well, imagine you and your friends are choosing the leader of your club. Instead of voting directly for someone, you all choose people to represent you and your group of friends. These people are called delegates.

Each delegate listens to what their group wants and then votes for the person they believe is the best choice for leader. The person who gets the most votes from the delegates becomes the leader of the club.

This is what we call an indirect election. Instead of directly voting for someone, you choose people to represent you who then vote for the leader. It's like a big game of telephone where your voice gets passed on to someone else to eventually decide on the winner.
