ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Industrial Age

The Industrial Age is a time in history when people began using machines to do work that used to be done by hand. It began in the 1700s and lasted until the 1900s. People built huge factories and started using machines powered by steam (hot air from water that had been boiled) to build things faster and more efficiently. These machines allowed people to make things like clothes, cars, planes, steel, and food in big numbers and quickly. This made it easier and cheaper for people to buy things, and it made many jobs available for people who worked in these factories. Before the Industrial Age, most people worked at home or made things by hand, and it often took a long time to make things. With the machines, people could make things quickly and cheaply and it made the world a lot smaller.
