ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Infamy

Okay kiddo, let me explain what infamy means. You know how sometimes when you do something really bad, like hitting your sibling or breaking something important, your parents might say that you've done something "naughty" or "wrong"? And you might feel really bad afterwards because you know you did something you shouldn't have done?

Well, infamy is kind of like that, but on a much bigger scale. It's when someone does something really, REALLY bad or terrible that hurts a lot of people or goes against what most people believe is right. Infamous people are famous or well-known, but not for good things - they're known for doing something really bad, like being a criminal, or causing a big disaster, or doing something really hurtful to other people.

Famous infamous people might include things like pirates who stole from other ships, or criminals who did really terrible things like murder. Sometimes, people can become infamous for doing something more recent, like a famous athlete who cheated during their games, or a politician who did something really wrong while they were in office.

So infamy is basically the opposite of fame or popularity - it's when you become known for doing something really bad or hurtful instead of something good or positive. But remember, it's always better to be known for doing good things and making people happy instead!
