In-group bias is when we like people who are similar to us. It's like giving a friend or family member special treatment because they are a part of our group (an example of this would be if your family was cheering for a certain sports team together and it seemed like everyone was on the same side and you felt like you had to be on the same team too). This can happen in all areas of life, from sports to politics to religion. When we have a feeling of belonging to a group, we tend to think that the people in our group are better than people who aren't in our group. This can lead to people treating those in their group differently than those outside the group.
