In-groups and out-groups are terms used to describe social groups. An in-group is a group of people who are similar to each other in some way. This can be in terms of their beliefs, values, interests, nationality, gender, age, or any other way they might be connected. On the other hand, an out-group is a group of people who are different from the in-group in those same ways. For example, if a group of people are all from the same country, they might form an in-group because they all share the same culture and language. People from other countries would then be part of the out-group.
