Input/output automaton

An input/output automaton is a machine that can do things without any help from a person. It takes in a set of inputs (like words, numbers, or symbols) and then takes those inputs and turns them into an output (like a word, number, or symbol). For example, a calculator is an input/output automaton, because you type in numbers and it gives you the answer.
