ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Insulator (electricity)

An insulator is like a special kind of superhero costume that helps to protect electricity from escaping.

Electricity likes to move around, but sometimes we want to control where it goes. An insulator is something that can help us do that.

It's like putting on a pair of gloves when you want to pick up something hot. Just like how the gloves protect your hands from getting burned, an insulator protects electricity from going where we don't want it to.

For example, if we have wires carrying electricity, we don't want the electricity to go into other things that might touch the wires. If we wrap the wires in insulators, it creates a barrier that doesn't allow the electricity to escape.

So, an insulator is like a shield that keeps electricity safe and contained.
