ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Interesting number paradox

Imagine you have a piece of paper with all the numbers written on it, from 1 to infinity. Now, imagine that you want to find the most interesting number on that list. You might think that the number 7 is the most interesting, because it’s lucky, or the number 13 is the most interesting because it’s unlucky.

But now, let’s turn this into a paradox by saying that for any number you choose, there is always a more interesting number. For example, if you choose 7 because it’s lucky, I could say that 77 is more interesting, because it has two sevens in it. But then you could argue that 777 is even more interesting, and so on.

This paradox means that there is no objective measure of what makes a number interesting or not. Everyone might have a different opinion or reason for why they think a certain number is interesting. So, we can never truly find the most interesting number in the infinite list. It’s a never-ending game of one-upping each other.
