Internal fertilization is when a male animal puts his sperm inside the female animal's body to make a baby. This usually happens when the male and female animals have special body parts that fit together like a puzzle. For example, a male turtle might have a special tail that he uses to put his sperm inside the female turtle, where it meets with her egg and makes a baby turtle.
After the sperm and egg get together, the baby animal grows inside the female's body until it is ready to come out. This is called a pregnancy. When the baby animal is fully developed, the female animal will give birth and the baby animal will start its own life.
Internal fertilization is important in many kinds of animals because it helps them make sure that their babies will be healthy and strong. It also allows parents to take care of their babies until they are ready to live on their own.
