ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Internal revenue code

The Internal Revenue Code is like a big book of rules that tells the government how to collect taxes. You know how your parents have rules for you to follow at home? Well, the government has rules that people and businesses have to follow when it comes to paying taxes.

The Internal Revenue Code has a lot of different rules and laws for how taxes work. For example, it explains how much money you have to make before you need to pay taxes, and how they figure out how much you owe. It also says what kinds of things you can do to lower the amount of taxes you need to pay.

Now, just like how you might get grounded if you break your parents' rules, there are consequences if you don't follow the rules in the Internal Revenue Code. People who don't pay their taxes or cheat on their taxes can get into trouble with the government, just like how you might get into trouble with your parents if you don't follow the rules at home.

But don't worry too much - most people and businesses follow the rules and pay their taxes on time, so the government can use that money to do important things like build roads and schools.
