ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Internal urethral orifice

Imagine that your body has a plumbing system just like the pipes in your house. This plumbing system helps liquid waste, called urine, to travel out of your body.

One important part of this plumbing system is called the urethra. It's like a tiny tube that carries the urine from your bladder to outside your body.

Now, inside your body, there is a special opening where the urethra starts. It's called the internal urethral orifice. This opening is like the doorway between your bladder and your urethra. It's a small hole that allows the urine from your bladder to pass through and begin its journey out of your body.

Just like a door, the internal urethral orifice can open and close. When you don't need to pee, it stays closed to keep the urine inside your bladder. But when it's time to go to the bathroom, it opens up to let the urine flow out.

So, think of the internal urethral orifice as the special doorway that connects your bladder to the urethra to help urine find its way out of your body.
