The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a really fancy competition for kids who love math! You know how you may have math competitions at your school? Well, the IMO is like a really, REALLY BIG math competition for kids from all around the world.
Every year, students who are 20 years old or younger from lots of different countries can participate in the competition. Each country takes their smartest and most talented young mathematicians to compete at the IMO.
The event usually lasts for about two days and has six problems to solve - these problems are really tricky and require a lot of thinking! You may think, "Six problems only? That's easy!" but no! These problems can take hours to solve, and some kids may not even manage to solve all six.
At the end of the competition, the judges tally up the scores and determine the winners. The kids with the highest scores get shiny medals and prizes!
The IMO is a really cool event for young mathematicians to meet each other, learn from each other, and show off their math skills. The problems are crazy hard, but solving them can give you a real sense of accomplishment!
