International relations of the great powers (1814-1919) is a time period in history when a few countries, known as the great powers, had a lot of influence and control in the world. These countries used their power to shape the way other countries acted and interacted with each other. They aimed to create a balance of power so that no one country could get too powerful. To do this they made agreements, treaties and alliances with each other known as diplomacy which basically means talking and negotiating. During this time period, the great powers were Britain, France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy, Russia, and the United States. They were all rivals and wanted to protect their territories and interests, so they got involved in a lot of international affairs and negotiations. This time period marked a major change in the world - it was one of the first times countries worked together instead of simply competing with each other.
