Internment of Italian Americans

During a time of war, in the 1940s, people became afraid of those who had come from countries that were fighting against the United States (like Italy). Some Americans thought that people from Italy might also be spying or helping their home country.

As a result, the government decided to take those who had come from Italy, along with other countries, and put them into special camps. These were like special neighborhoods where the people weren't allowed to leave.

Most of the people who were put into these camps were innocent and didn't do anything wrong. They were just scared of them because of where they came from. This wasn't fair, and it caused a lot of sadness and hurt for the Italians who were forced to leave their homes and live in these camps.
