ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Interpretive planning

Dear little one,

Interpretive planning is all about making things fun and interesting for people who are visiting a park, museum or other tourist attraction. It involves someone (like me!) thinking about how to help people learn about and appreciate the things they see and hear.

Imagine you are visiting a park and you see a big tree. It's just a tree, right? But if I was an interpretive planner, I might put up a sign that tells you why this tree is special. Maybe it's a very old tree that has been around for hundreds of years, or maybe it has a funny shape that makes it different from other trees.

Interpretive planning involves doing this kind of thing all around the park or attraction. It could mean putting up signs, creating interactive displays or even having people who work at the park or museum to tell you interesting stories about the things you see.

The goal of interpretive planning is to help people enjoy their visit more and to help them learn something new about the things they see. So the next time you visit a park or museum, look out for signs and displays that might have been put there by an interpretive planner like me!
