Interstate Commerce Act

Okay kiddo, let me tell you about the Interstate Commerce Act. You know how there are lots of things that are sold and shipped all over the country, like toys, cars, and even food? Well, the law called the Interstate Commerce Act helps to make sure that all those things get transported safely and fairly.

Back in the old days, some companies that owned trains and railroads were being mean to smaller businesses by charging them more money to ship their stuff. This was not fair because it made it harder for the smaller businesses to compete with the bigger ones. So, the government made a law in 1887 called the Interstate Commerce Act to try and stop this from happening.

The law made it so that companies that own trains and railroads had to treat all businesses fairly and charge reasonable prices for shipping their stuff. It also set up a group called the Interstate Commerce Commission to make sure that everyone was following the rules.

The Interstate Commerce Act was a big deal because it helped to make it fair for everyone who wanted to ship things from one place to another. It made it easier for small businesses to compete with bigger ones and helped to make transportation safer for all the things we use and enjoy every day.
