When you turn on a light bulb, you can see the light glowing because of the electricity going through it. A similar thing happens with ionized-air glow, but instead of a light bulb, it happens in the air itself.
Imagine that there are tiny, tiny particles in the air called ions. These ions are like little electrically charged atoms that are floating around. When lots of these ions get together in one spot, they start to glow! It's like they're having a little party and the glow is their way of saying, "Yay, we're all together!"
Usually, ionized-air glow happens when there is a lot of energy in an area. This energy could come from something like lightning or a spark, or from something called a plasma generator (which is a fancy machine that makes lots of ions in the air).
The glow itself can look different depending on what colors the ions are. Sometimes it's blue, sometimes it's purple, and sometimes it's even pink! But no matter what color it is, ionized-air glow is a really cool thing to see.
