Irish immigration to Puerto Rico

Irish immigration to Puerto Rico happened during the 1800s. The Irish were invited to the island by the Spanish government to help settle and develop the colony. Puerto Rico offered the Irish a better life than the poverty and famine in their homeland. The Irish worked in all kinds of jobs, including building roads and churches, growing crops, and teaching. Many of the names of towns and landmarks in Puerto Rico today come from the Irish settlers. The Irish brought with them their language, music, and culture, which still influence Puerto Rican culture today.
