Islam in Africa

Islam is a religion that was started by a man named Muhammad who lived a long time ago. People who believe in Islam believe in one God called Allah and they follow a set of rules called the Quran.

Some of the teachings include the importance of praying five times a day, fasting during the month of Ramadan, giving to charity, and making a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca once in a lifetime.

Today, Islam is the religion practiced by a large portion of the population in Africa. It has had a major influence on the continent's culture, traditions, and history. Many African countries have significant Muslim populations, such as Egypt, Sudan, and Nigeria. Historically, the growth of Islam in Africa led to the development of great kingdoms, like the Mali Empire and the Sokoto Caliphate.
