Islam in Nigeria

Sure! So, do you know what religion means? Religion is a belief in God(s) or a higher power. Islam is a type of religion, just like Christianity or Judaism. It was started by a man named Prophet Muhammad who lived over a thousand years ago in what is now Saudi Arabia.

In Nigeria, which is a country in Africa, Islam is one of the two main religions. The other one is Christianity. Lots of people in northern Nigeria are Muslim, while people in southern Nigeria are mostly Christian.

Muslims in Nigeria follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad as written in the Holy Book, called the Quran. They pray five times a day, fast during the month of Ramadan, give to charity, and go on a pilgrimage to Mecca, which is a city in Saudi Arabia that is considered holy in Islam.

There are also some different groups or sects within Islam, called Sunni and Shia. In Nigeria, most Muslims are Sunnis. There are some tensions between different religious groups in Nigeria, but Muslims and Christians generally coexist peacefully.

Islam has been in Nigeria for over 1,000 years, since traders from North Africa brought the religion to the area. It has grown and has become an important part of Nigeria's identity.
