Okay kiddo, let me explain to you about the Istrian-Dalmatian exodus.
Have you ever moved from one place to another, like from one house to another? Well, sometimes people move from one whole area to another, and that's what happened with the Istrian-Dalmatian exodus.
This happened after World War II, when Italy lost control of what is now Croatia, including the regions of Istria and Dalmatia. Some people who lived in those regions were Italian, but others were Croatian or Yugoslavian.
After the war, there were some conflicts between the different groups of people living in those regions. Some Italians who lived there were worried that they would be mistreated or punished because Italy had been fighting against Yugoslavia in the war.
So, many Italians who lived in Istria and Dalmatia decided to leave and move to Italy. This was called the Istrian-Dalmatian exodus.
It was a big deal because a lot of people had to leave their homes and everything they knew to start over somewhere else. It was also sad because some people didn't want to leave, but felt like they had to for safety reasons.
Does that help you understand a bit better, kiddo?
