ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jackboot

A jackboot is a type of military boot that is very tall and sturdy. It is made to protect a soldier's feet and legs in battle. But jackboots have also become a symbol of oppressive and cruel regimes throughout history.

Imagine if you had a pair of boots that went all the way up to your knees. They would be really strong and tough, kind of like a superhero's outfit. Soldiers wear jackboots to look and feel powerful when they are fighting.

However, some leaders in the past have used jackboots as a way to show their power over their people. They would send soldiers wearing jackboots to control the streets and intimidate anyone who didn't follow the rules. This is why jackboots can also be a symbol of fear and oppression.

So while jackboots are meant to protect a soldier's feet, they can also have a scary meaning because of how they have been used in history.
