Okay, kiddo, so you know how when we go camping, we set up a tent to sleep in?
Well, imagine that instead of a tent, there's a big machine called a jackup rig that people use to drill for oil or gas in the ocean. But this machine isn't just sitting on the ocean floor like a regular tent, it stands on legs that look like giant pencils.
These really strong legs can stretch down deep into the ocean floor, and then the big part of the machine - where the workers live and work - sits on top of them.
When it gets to where it's going, the legs of the jackup rig are lowered down until they're standing firm on the ocean floor. Then, the big part of the machine rises up above the water, and it's ready to go to work.
People can live and work on the jackup rig for a long time, just like camping. They use it to dig deep down under the ocean to find oil or gas, just like how we dig holes in the ground to find worms or treasure.
And when they're done finding what they need, they can pack up the jackup rig just like we pack up our tent and move on to the next place where they need to do some drilling. Cool, huh?
