ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jacobitism

Alright kiddo, so have you ever heard of a king or queen? They are like the boss of a big place called a country.

Well, back in the olden times, there was a king of a place called Scotland (it's like a big area in the United Kingdom) named King James II. But one day, he had to leave his job as the king because he wasn't doing a good job and people didn't like him.

After he left, his family and friends still really wanted him to be the king again, even though he couldn't be. They started to try and make him the king again, even though there already was a new king named King George.

These people who wanted King James II to be king again were called Jacobites. They believed that King James II's son, Prince James, should be the new king of Scotland and England, and not King George. So, they would fight and argue with King George's supporters, and sometimes even go to war with them, to try and make Prince James the king.

But even though the Jacobites tried really hard, they were never able to make Prince James the king again. So, they eventually stopped trying and it's all just a part of history now.
