Jain schools and branches

Okay kiddo, have you heard of Jains before? They are a group of people who follow a religion called Jainism, which started in India a very long time ago.

Now, within Jainism, there are different schools or groups of people who have slightly different beliefs or practices. Think of it like your school having different classes or grades - they are all part of the same school, but maybe the students in one grade learn different things than the students in another grade.

So, there are two main branches of Jainism: Digambara and Svetambara. The biggest difference between them is that the Digambara Jains believe that monks (men who give up everything to focus on their religion) should not wear any clothes at all, while the Svetambara Jains believe that monks can wear white clothes.

Within the Svetambara branch, there are two more schools: Murtipujaka and Sthanakvasi. The Murtipujaka Jains believe in worshipping statues and images of their gods, while the Sthanakvasi Jains do not believe in worshipping physical idols or symbols.

Overall, even though there are different schools and branches within Jainism, they all share a belief in non-violence and respect for all living things.
