ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jam

Jam is a sweet and fruity spread that you can put on your toast, biscuits, or even sandwiches. You know how when you eat fruit, there are seeds and skins that you might not like? Jam is made so that you can enjoy all of the yummy parts of fruit in one delicious spread.

To make jam, you start with fresh fruit like strawberries, peaches, or blueberries. Then, you add sugar and cook it on the stove until it becomes thick and gooey. The sugar may seem like a lot, but it helps preserve the jam so that you can enjoy it for a long time.

So, why is it called jam? Well, when you cook the fruit and sugar together, it becomes so thick and sticky that it sort of gets stuck (or "jammed") in the jar.

Jam comes in all sorts of flavors, like grape, raspberry, and apricot, so you're sure to find one that you like. And once you try it, you might just be "jammed" on it!
