James C. Scott

James C. Scott is an American academic and historian. He is famous for his research and writings on political power and resistance to power, especially in rural and peasant societies. He also wrote about the myths of technological progress, and how revolutionaries and reformers have often overestimated the odds for success. In short, James C. Scott studies how ordinary people and those in power interact, and how those with less power often find ways to resist or challenge those in power.
