ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

James Kirchner

James Kirchner is a person who studies things called "geosciences". This means he looks at things like rocks, mountains, and the Earth's surface to learn about how things have changed over a really long time.

Imagine you have a puzzle with a lot of pieces. James Kirchner is like a detective who puts all of those pieces together to figure out what the puzzle looks like. But instead of a puzzle, he is trying to figure out how the Earth has changed over thousands of years.

He is really smart and knows a lot about math and science. He uses those skills to solve big problems, like figuring out what caused an earthquake or how water flows through the ground.

Even though he studies things that might be hard to understand, he's really good at explaining it in a way that everyone can understand.
