Janus (surname)

Janus is a name that some people have as their last name, like a family name. It comes from ancient Roman mythology, which means stories that people used to tell a long, long time ago about their gods and goddesses. Janus was a god of beginnings and transitions, which means he was in charge of things like starting new things or moving from one thing to another.

People who have the last name Janus might have gotten it because they are related to someone who was named after the god Janus a long time ago, or maybe because their ancestors were from a place where that was a common last name. Kind of like how some people have the last name Smith because a long time ago, one of their ancestors was a blacksmith, which is someone who made things out of metal like horseshoes or tools.

So, even though Janus is a last name that some people have, it actually comes from a very old story about a Roman god.
