Japanese POWs in the Soviet Union

Okay kiddo, during World War II, Japan fought against many countries, including the Soviet Union. When the Soviet forces defeated Japan in Manchuria in August 1945, many Japanese soldiers surrendered to them. These Japanese soldiers were called prisoners of war or POWs.

Now, the Soviet Union was not happy with Japan because Japan didn't surrender earlier than this. So, the Soviet Union treated the Japanese POWs differently than the other countries who fought in the war. They were sent to labor camps and made to work very hard without much food or comfort.

Some of these Japanese POWs died due to starvation, disease or harsh working conditions. They were not allowed to contact their families or return to Japan until many years later.

Overall, being a Japanese POW in the Soviet Union during World War II was very difficult and not very pleasant at all.
