Jasličkári

Jasličkári is a Slovak word that means "nativity scene makers." You know the story of Jesus being born on Christmas Day? Well, jasličkári are people who make really cool sculptures of that story. They usually do it with tiny little figurines and they set up the sculptures in special places like churches, homes or town squares for people to see.

Have you ever seen a little statue of a baby Jesus in a manger, surrounded by animals and people? That's a nativity scene! And jasličkári make even more complicated scenes with many more figures and animals.

The jasličkári artists often work really hard to make everything look just right. They use all sorts of materials, like clay, plaster, wood, and even live plants and animals. They paint everything in beautiful colors and add little lights to make the scene look magical.

Jasličkári artists have been making these sculptures for hundreds of years. It's a really special tradition in Slovakia, and many people look forward to seeing the nativity scenes every year during the Christmas season.
