ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Java rice

Java rice is a type of rice that comes from a place called Java, which is an island in Indonesia. Like all rice, it starts off as a seed that is planted in soil. It needs lots of sun and water to grow big and strong. Once it's grown, the rice is harvested, which means it's picked and collected.

After the rice is harvested, it goes through a process called milling. This means that the outer layers of the rice are removed, leaving only the white part that we usually eat. The white part of the rice is called the grain and it's what we cook when we make rice dishes.

Java rice is known for having a distinct flavor and aroma. This is because of the place it comes from - the soil, sun, and water on Java Island all contribute to its unique taste. People often use Java rice in recipes that call for rice because it can add a special touch to dishes.

So, next time you have rice with your meal, you can think about how it used to be a seed, then a plant, then harvested, milled, and cooked - and if it's Java rice, it comes all the way from Indonesia!
