ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jayson Blair

Jayson Blair was a man who was a writer for a big newspaper called The New York Times. Sometimes, people who work as writers for newspapers or other media have a very big job. They have to write stories that tell what is happening in the world, and they have to be really careful to get all the facts right, so that people can trust what they write.

But, unfortunately, Jayson Blair sometimes didn't do his job right. He would sometimes write things that just weren't true or he would copy big parts of other people's work and pretend that he wrote it. This is called plagiarism, and it's something that writers are never supposed to do.

When his bosses at The New York Times found out about what Jayson Blair was doing, they got very upset. They couldn't trust anything he had written in the past, and they had to figure out how to fix it.

Even though Jayson Blair did a very bad thing, it's important to remember that most writers take their jobs very seriously and work very hard to make sure they get everything right. It's not okay to lie or cheat in any job, and it's important to always try to do your best work.
