Jean Carbonnier was a French lawyer and legal scholar, who lived from 1913-2006. He was an expert in the study of private law and had a particular interest in Family Law, which is the law that covers the rules and regulations that govern relationships between people in a family, including marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption. He wrote a lot of books and articles about the legal rights and responsibilities of families, and his most famous work, "Famille et Personnes" (Family and People) became the standard text for law students and members of the legal profession in France. Carbonnier believed that laws should change as society evolves, and he was a strong advocate for reforms that would make it easier for people to have the legal rights they needed and deserved.
