Jean-Baptiste Lully was a very important man who lived a long time ago and he was really good at making music. He was born in France in 1632 and he was very good at playing the violin and also the guitar. As he grew up, he became a musician and a composer, which means he made up his own music.
Lully was so good at making music that he became the official composer for a really important person in France who was called King Louis XIV. The king loved Lully's music so much that he made him part of the royal court and gave him lots of money and a big house to live in.
Sometimes when Lully made music, he would use lots of different instruments like the drums, trumpets, and violins. He even invented a special drum that was used a lot in music at that time.
Lully was very famous for something very special called opera, which is like a play that is all singing. He made lots of operas that were really popular and people loved to watch them in big theaters.
Even though Lully was really talented and famous, he had a sad ending. One day, while he was conducting a concert, he got really excited and hit his foot hard on the ground with a special stick he used for conducting. Unfortunately, he hit his foot too hard and got really sick and later died.
So, even though Lully had a sad ending, he was still a very important musician and composer who made lots of great music that people still love today.
