ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Jean-Charles de Borda

Okay kiddo, so do you know what a vote is? It's when we choose something or someone. Well, a long time ago in a country called France, there was a man named Jean-Charles de Borda who was very interested in how people voted.

He made a special way of voting called the Borda count. This meant that when people were voting for something or someone, they would give a score, like 1,2,3, or higher, to each of the choices. Then, Jean-Charles de Borda added up all the scores and the one with the most points was the winner. Pretty cool, right?

But wait, there's more. Jean-Charles de Borda was also very curious about how boats moved in the water. He made some special tools and did lots of experiments to figure out how the wind and water affected boats. He even wrote a book about it!

So, Jean-Charles de Borda was a smart man who created a new way of voting and studied how boats moved. Cool, huh?
