Jerry Potts
Jerry Potts was a man who lived a long time ago and did some very important things that helped people. He was a special person because he was part of two different groups of people, the First Nations people and the people who came from Europe.
Jerry Potts grew up learning a lot of things from his First Nations family, like how to hunt and fish and how to live off the land. But he also learned a lot of things from the people who came from Europe, like how to speak English and how to read and write.
Because Jerry Potts knew so much about both groups of people, he was able to help them talk to each other and understand each other better. He worked as a guide and a translator, which means he helped people who were from different groups communicate with each other. He knew how to navigate the land and was able to help people cross dangerous rivers and mountains safely.
Jerry Potts also helped the police in Canada to catch bad people who were trying to hurt other people or steal things. He knew the land where they were trying to hide and was able to track them down and make sure they were caught.
