Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, back in the year 1916, there were some people who were going for a swim on the beach in a place called the Jersey Shore. Beaches are places with lots of sand and water and people like to go there to soak up the sun, swim, and have fun.
But something really scary happened that summer. A big fish wanted to eat people and started attacking them! This fish was called a shark and it was very big and very scary. Sharks usually don't like to eat humans, but for some reason, this one started biting people, including some who were in shallow water close to the beach.
Everyone got really scared and didn't want to go for a swim anymore. They thought the shark was going to come back and attack them again. Some people tried to catch the shark but no one could find it.
Eventually, the attacks stopped, but not before more than 10 people were bitten and some of them even died. The incident is known as the Jersey Shore Shark Attacks of 1916 and it is still remembered today as a scary time when people at the beach had to be careful of sharks.
